UK supergroup Apparatjik (which features members from Coldplay, a-ha, and Mew) took a novel approach to the release of their sophomore LP, Square Peg In A Round Hole. Back in November, the band released an initial version of the 12-track album, with the intent of subsequently releasing 10 weekly crowd-produced “drafts” of the record, featuring new edits and musical tweaks. The final “draft” would then become the official album, reflecting each version’s best qualities/cuts, to be released later this month.
In the lead up to the final album’s debut, the four-piece is sharing the newest rework of the ironically-titled “Do It Myself”, with guest vocals from N.E.R.D.’s Pharrell Williams. The selection lacks the clutter of other edits, focusing on Williams’ chilled-out vocals styling and the lush, island-inspired backdrop of hi-hats, horns, and synths.
